Our Coaches

Beatrice Sims

Program Director & Girls Head Coach

Beatrice has been coaching at WW since the fall of 2024. Since discovering rowing as a college walk-on at Brown, she has gone “all-in” on the sport! She has coached masters, youth, and collegiate athletes, and worked as a software developer for Concept2. Beatrice’s favorite part of coaching is seeing it “click” for an athlete, whether it’s making a technical change or realizing that they’re stronger than they think.

Dan Mahoney

Boys Head Coach

A dedicated leader and former athlete, Dan has been with WWRA since 2019, bringing deep experience and passion to the program. He’s a 2019 graduate of UMass Amherst, where he was a proud member of the UMass Men’s Varsity Rowing Team.

Dan has also coached at the collegiate level, serving as an assistant coach at Amherst College and Holy Cross—experiences that shaped his approach to technical development, teamwork, and competitive excellence.

After college, he returned to Washington DC and coached the lightweight men at Georgetown. He currently builds French horns and repairs brass instruments.

Jay Manson

These days, Jay is still training and racing as a master at Cambridge Boat Club.

Jaya Mills

Jaya joined the WW staff in Fall 2025. She graduated from WPI in 2024, and by the time she graduated from college had been involved with rowing for 11 years. Jaya began with rowing at Wayland Weston, and then spend 5 being a coxswain for WPI Women’s rowing, where she worked with all levels of experience.

Steve Mascioli

Masters Coach

Steve’s rowing story started on Cape Cod, where summers spent in dinghies sparked a lifelong curiosity about the sleek shells gliding along the Charles River.

After learning to scull as a young adult, life and career pulled him away from the water—until he rediscovered rowing in 2018 with WWRA’s Adult Program. Since then, Steve has been all in: rowing, coaching novices, guiding adults in Learn to Row and Masters programs, and even serving on our Board of Directors.
