October 3, 2010 — Crews from all four squads traveled to Lowell for the Textile River Regatta, our first of the season. The Novice boys brought three crews, all of which were on their first race of the year, many the first race of their rowing careers! The Novice Boys started the day off with a strong performance placing 3rd, 12th, and 17th of 25 crews.

A bit later in the day the girls novices kicked off their fall campaign with a 4th place finish out of 23 crews. A great start to their fall season and rowing careers!

Next up were the Boys and Girls Varsity 4’s, these athletes were on their first race of the day with racing in the 8’s schedule for the afternoon. The Boy’s “A” boat brought home the gold medal by nearly 50 seconds over a crew from Brewster Academy with the “B” boat finishing 8th out of 34 crews. The Girls 4’s also had very strong  performances with the “A” boat winning the gold over the top crew from Winsor by 37 seconds and the “B” boat finishing with a Bronze medal! The girls continued their strong performance in the 4’s winning the lightweight 4 by 34 seconds over a crew from Manhasset HS.

The Afternoon racing for the varsity squads brought the big boats; both boys and girls varsity squads had 3 crews racing in the Junior 8+ events. The Boys squad went first with the “A” boat bringing home more hardware placing 2nd behind perennial powerhouse Chaminade. The “B” and “C” entries also had strong performances placing 10th and 36th of 44 crews.

The Girls Varsity “A” boat placed 2nd behind CRI, also bringing home the silver medal. The “B” and “C” boats also had strong races placing 15th and 31st out of 37 crews. The Girls had an entry in the Jr. lightweight 8+ event but unfortunately were unable to compete.

All in all a good day for all involved! Next up, the Head of the Housatonic this coming Saturday. Keep an eye out for an e-mail later today containing all of the “need-to-know” information!
