A quick re-cap of the Lowell Invite. First off, I want to thank all of the parents and athletes for helping out Saturday. The T-storms made life a bit more interesting than we’d like, and I think the kids did a great job getting work done then making their way to the buses for safety. For the parents, thank you for backing us up and holding down the fort!
The Novice Boys were on the water when the T-storm rolled through, thanks to great work by the Lowell regatta staff the boats were off the water and the kids got to safety in an expedient fashion. Unfortunately, the novice boys were not able to race, although they did get a row down the course after retrieving their shells from the staging area.
On to the results:
The Varsity girls competed in five events, taking Silver in all of them. Crews bringing home the medals were the 1st Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, 3rd Varsity 8, Lwt. 4, and pair. The open four was scheduled to race in the late afternoon, unfortunately racing was cancelled shortly after they launched. The novice girls won Flight “A,” making a turn around on crews from CRI and Essex that they lost to the previous week, besting the field by 3 seconds. The Novice girls “B” boat came home with bronze medals, finishing 3rd in the 3rd flight to CRI “B” and Hanover “B.”
The Varsity Boys pair started off the day with a silver medal, nipped by a crew from Brookline by 1 second. Both the 2nd and 3rd Varsity 8s finished 2nd, taking home some hardware. The Boys Lightweight 8 raced in the Open Varsity 8 category, finishing 4th to strong openweight competition from Bromfield, Hingham, and Northampton. Capping off the results, the Boys Lightweight 4s finished 2nd and 4th respectively.
Overall Wayland-Weston finished 2nd in the team points standings!
I’ll have the information for Northeast Regionals out tomorrow, I’m hoping to have heat assignments by then! For now the preliminary schedule is posted on www.regattacentral.com.
