October 9, 2010 — Members of all four squads traveled to Shelton, CT for the Head of the Housatonic regatta. It was a warm fall day with the full complement of warm sun and a very strong headwind by the afternoon.

The Novice Boys and Girls started racing for the day on the right note. The boys 1st boat earned their second medal of the season and first win besting a 2nd place crew from Manahasset HS by nearly 30 seconds! The boy’s 2nd novice also rowed a strong race finishing in 10th place of 17 crews. The Novice Girls rowed strong races as well finishing 4th and 11th of 12 crews in the event.

The first Varsity races of the afternoon were the Girls Varsity 4’s and Boys Varsity 8’s. The Girls raced three 4’s which all had strong performances; the “A” crew came home with a silver medal, the “C” crew placed 6th, and the “B” crew placed 8th of 13 crews. The Boy’s “A” 8+ came home with Wayland- Weston’s second set of gold medals on the day, winning the 8+ by 3 seconds over a crew from Niskayuna. The “B” and “C” entries also performed well placing 5th and 18th of 25 boats.

The second set of Varsity races came a bit later in the afternoon with the Girls Varsity 8’s and Boy’s Varsity 4’s. W/W boated three crews for each of those events. In the Girls 8+ the “B” entry had a strong showing placing 8th, with the “C” entry racing to a 18th place finish of 19 crews. The “A” entry unfortunately did not compete due to an aggravated injury from an earlier race. The Boy’s 4’s had yet another strong showing, with the “A” boat winning for two weeks in a row defeating 2nd place New Canaan by 34 seconds. Both the “B” and “C” entries also showed well placing 8th and 13th of 25. ‘

All in all another good weekend, and our longest trip of the fall season.
