- What is crew/rowing?
- This is not an easy question to answer because there are so many aspects to discuss.
Simply put, rowing is racing in vert fast, narrow boats with one to eight rowers.
- What is a coxswain/cox?
- These are generally smaller athletes who sit near the stern of the boat. They are
responsible for steering the boat, encouraging the rowers, and even a providing a
little bit of coaching.
- How dow you pronounce coxswain?
- Something like: COX'sin - there will be variations though.
- How long are the boats?
- The 8 person boats are a little less than 60 feet long. One person boats are about
25 feet long.
- How long are the oars?
- Rowing oars are about 12 feet long. Sculls (used for sculling) are about 9 feet long.
- What is sculling? What is the difference between rowing and sculling?
- Rowing is peformed with one oar per person. In sculling, each person has two sculls.
